JACKSON HOLE, WYOMING – MAYA FRODEMAN GALLERY is pleased to present Doubles, a solo exhibition with artist Mike Piggott, on view at the gallery's downtown location from June 13th through July 27th, 2025. An artist reception will be held Friday, June 13th from 5 to 7pm. Piggott will be in attendance. All are welcome to attend.

Doubles by local artist Mike Piggott explores the creative freedom found in making two versions of the same painting—distinct yet intrinsically connected. Piggott approaches each canvas with a playful openness, embracing the idea that even the smallest shift in one painting can unfold differently in the next. This solo exhibition engages themes of false doubles, duplication, epistemology, and mirroring – inviting us to question what we see and understand as truth. One cannot help but draw parallels between Piggott’s Doubles and Vladimir Nabokov’s Despair, a brilliant novel that similarly navigates themes of identity, duplication, and illusion. Whether bringing a quizzical eye to the subtleties of everyday life in still life paintings like Two Daffodils No. 1 and No. 2, or studying the shifting light over the Tetons in Tetons No.1 and No. 2, each of Piggott’s 'doubles' engages the viewer in a playful interrogation of perception.

When Mike Piggott arrived to the Snake River Valley, he drove in from Grand Teton National Park in the North and stopped at the lookout very close to where Ansel Adams took his famous photo of the Tetons. A bald eagle soared through the air and Piggott knew something was afoot. We’re lucky to now know the fruits of his powerful first encounter with the place he now calls home—a wonderful oeuvre of works that are at once playful and enigmatic.
